New materials,
new designs, and more sophisticated uses for contact lenses require
different tools than previously used in the manufacture of traditional
rigid and soft lenses. Contour’s free design service will work
with the laboratory to produce a diamond tool for any novel or traditional
lens design, for any type of contact lens lathe.
Available with either natural or synthetic single crystal diamond, a range of radius size and rake angles, with standard solid shank or insert system, the Contour tool is an essential for the production of quality contact lenses. The radius is generated to be smooth and facet-free. The edge is inspected to be chip free, at x500 Nomarski. These standard tools can also be used in roughing operations. For moulded lenses, the production of the moulds requires controlled waviness tools as described in the Electro-Optics section. Please refer to this section for details. |
