Today’s intraocular lenses
demand more precision as well as being more sophisticated in their
designs. In order to produce
IOLs of complex
geometries, whether lathe cut or moulded, accurate and advanced two
axis machines are normally used. These highly precise machines can
have their
accuracy compromised by a number of factors, including an inaccurate
diamond tool. Elimination of one major source of error by utilising
a very defined and measured diamond tool will greatly assist in the
elimination
or reduction of rejects.
Lower polishing time is essential for better production yields. Also,
the less time the lens is in contact with the polishing medium, the
more predictable the end results.
Contour’s tools that are used in the manufacture of IOLs are
highly accurate and help to achieve higher production yields. Available
in natural or synthetic diamonds, with solid shank or insert system.
