The Ultimate in Waviness Control

For three decades Contour Fine Tooling has been          continually refining its processes used for the production of Controlled Waviness diamond tools.  Unlike ’tool       normal’ machining processes, whether R-Theta or XZB, the now common two-axis machining methods typically using X & Z axes require a truly circular cutting edge as a      foundation for workpiece form accuracy.

Initially cylindrical clearance tools were developed that exhibited sub-micron fundamental circularity or waviness, but the nature of the cylindrical form dictated that an    elliptical  error component resulted.   Even today, tools that have a cylindrical  clearance and/or a negative rake, as typically used to machine crystalline materials, will    always have an elliptical error component.  Since this is predictable it is often ‘programmed out’.

For the ultimate in absolute waviness control, a conical clearance is combined with a 0° rake, thus avoiding the elliptical error component.  Diamond tools with this       geometry can be made with a waviness as low as 50nm PV over an arc of 100°.

Contour pays a particular attention not only to the         absolute waviness level of the tool but also to the        smoothness of its form, integrity of its cutting edge, and the consistency of these parameters, tool after tool.

In addition and as demonstrated below, the inherent      waviness of the tool remains essentially the same all the way down the diamonds depth, and therefore throughout the tools life, relap after relap.

It is small wonder that Contour Fine Tooling is regarded as the world leader in the supply of Controlled Waviness    diamond cutting tools, for both the Electro-Optics and Ophthalmics industries.

Recent enhancements to the ClubCFT portal include the facility for existing customers to re-order a previously      supplied tool.  Once logged in, the     customers entire tool history can be viewed as   before, with the additional      option to re-order a tool with the click of the mouse and a few key strokes.  An order acknowledgement is then sent to the customer.

Contour Fine Tooling KK is pleased to announce its move to more spacious premises in Hachioji City, in the Western outskirts of Metropolitan Tokyo.

The expansion has become  necessary due to an increasing demand for our products and services. New state of the art machines are being added in order to provide better service and to manufacture more      sophisticated tools for existing and developing markets.  For more information contact:
