The Right Tool, or Should it be Left?
With so many variables coming into play, such as zone angle, direction, width, and depth, together with the bigger picture of the lens application, wavelength, diameter, and number of zones, Contour is able to offer a diamond tool design service that will allow the optimum tool to be selected.
This often balances the trade-off between surface texture, zone definition, cycle times, and potential tool life, assisting you the customer to understand the impact of the various tool options, from sharp pointed to both half and full radius. Other crucial aspects such as clearance angle, whether it be cylindrical or conical in nature, can also have an impact on the final surface generated.
The advice and recommendations provided by Contour compliments well the widely used DIFFSYS part programming software (shown below) from Western Isle. This allows the tool path to be prepared, in addition to providing a graphical representation of how a selected tool will interface with the various surface zones.
